self-hosting docker linux pulumi
Personal Cloud
Moving my passwords, files, photos, media and finances off big-tech services and onto self-hosted, open-source apps on one European VPS, for about €19 a month.
| Service | What it does |
|---|---|
| Vaultwarden | Password manager (Bitwarden-compatible) |
| Nextcloud | File storage |
| Immich | Photo library |
| Jellyfin | Movies and TV |
| Navidrome | Music streaming |
| Audiobookshelf | Audiobooks and podcasts |
| Calibre-Web | Ebook library, Kobo-compatible |
| Firefly III | Personal finance |
| Uptime Kuma | Uptime monitoring |
Setup
Everything runs with Docker Compose on Ubuntu, behind Nginx with Let’s Encrypt certificates. The server itself is defined in Pulumi. Only SSH, HTTP and HTTPS are open, and SSH accepts keys only.
Files, photos and media live on a 1 TB Hetzner Storage Box, so the VPS disk only holds the apps.
| Cost | |
|---|---|
| Hetzner CX32 VPS (4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM) | ~€15/mo |
| Hetzner Storage Box (1 TB) | ~€4/mo |
| Total | ~€19/mo |
It also runs MapTap Scoreboard.
